By Sola Alabadan

The new President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN), Mr. Akinjide Orimolade, on Friday in Lagos, unveiled his agenda designed to transform the Institute and deepen insurance penetration in Nigeria through technology, enforcement of laws, and institutional development.
Orimolade, who was invested as the 53rd president of the CIIN today, unveiled his TEB Agenda where T stands for Technology, Ẹ for 9íoo9Enforcement, and Building—describing it as a roadmap with measurable programmes, milestones, and accountability mechanisms that will guide his administration.
On technology, the CIIN President announced plans to introduce hybrid computer-based examinations, enabling candidates across Nigeria to sit for professional examinations online, regardless of location.
He also promised to establish an InsurTech Learning Hub, a digital platform for continuous professional development that will provide training in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, cyber risk, embedded insurance, digital distribution, and InsurTech regulation.
Orimolade said his administration would strengthen the Institute’s flagship innovation initiative, InsurQuest, by making it a permanent programme and linking it with the Nigerian Insurers Association (NIA) Innovation Lab to nurture innovative insurance solutions.
In addition, he promised to modernise the Institute’s digital infrastructure through improved member engagement platforms, enhanced online payment systems, and a redesigned website that will serve as a comprehensive hub for research, learning, member services, and professional development.
On enforcement, Orimolade described the Nigeria Insurance Industry Reform Act (NIIRA) as a landmark legislation capable of reshaping the industry but stressed that regulation alone would not improve insurance penetration.
He announced plans to launch the InsureNigeria Awareness Campaign, a nationwide multimedia initiative aimed at showcasing real-life stories of individuals and businesses whose lives and livelihoods were protected by insurance.
The administration also plans to expand insurance education in secondary and tertiary institutions while strengthening engagement with professional bodies to improve insurance literacy and encourage informed decision-making across sectors.
Under the “Building” pillar, Orimolade reaffirmed his commitment to delivering a permanent CIIN Secretariat, describing it as a long-standing aspiration of the Institute.
He disclosed that the Institute would organise an Annual CIIN Secretariat Fundraising Gala to mobilise support from insurance industry leaders, investors, and stakeholders.
“I am making a personal commitment that before the end of this tenure, we will break ground on the CIIN permanent Secretariat,” he declared.
The new President also announced initiatives aimed at preserving institutional knowledge and developing future industry leaders.
These include a structured CIIN Mentor-Mentee Programme, which will pair experienced Fellows with emerging professionals, and the CIIN Podcast – Voices of the Industry, which will feature conversations with regulators, practitioners, and industry veterans while offering Continuing Professional Development (CPD) credits.
Orimolade further revealed that CIIN is exploring a strategic partnership with the Fintech Association of Nigeria (FintechNGR) through a Memorandum of Understanding.
According to him, the partnership will promote joint innovation programmes, develop talent pipelines, support advocacy on insurance regulation, and strengthen collaboration between the insurance and fintech ecosystems.
The CIIN President assured members that his administration would be guided by transparency, integrity, and measurable performance.
He said the technical subcommittee responsible for developing the TEB Agenda would remain in place throughout his tenure to monitor implementation through quarterly performance reviews, published key performance indicator (KPI) reports, and a structured accountability framework.
Orimolade equally called for collective commitment to advancing the insurance profession, expressing confidence that the Institute would emerge stronger through digital transformation, strategic partnerships, infrastructure development, and enhanced public engagement.
