The Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) took the enlightenment campaign about insurance to Wesley Girls Junior School, Yaba, Lagos on Tuesday, as part of events marking the 2026 Insurance Week. Other selected l schools in Lagos were also visited.
The Insurance Week, an annual event now in its second edition, is being organised as part of efforts to deepen public awareness, rebuild consumer trust, and expand insurance penetration across the country.
Building on the resounding success of the inaugural edition in Year 2025, the Year 2026 programme has been significantly expanded in scope, reach and ambition.
All CIIN chapters across the country are participating simultaneously, making this the most geographically inclusive insurance awareness campaign in Nigeria’s history.
The President of the CIIN, Mrs. Yetunde Olubunmi Ilori, said “This is not just a celebration. It is a call to action. Without insurance, our economy remains vulnerable and our people less secure. We have no choice but to deepen penetration and broaden participation — and Insurance Week is our vehicle for doing so.”
Themed ‘”Insurance: A Future Redefined” this year’s theme, according to the organisers, reflects a bold institutional conviction that the future of insurance in Nigeria is not merely approaching — it is being actively shaped today.
Miss. Jisinuola Ogundipe,
Senior manager, Persistency Retail Business, AIICO Insurance Plc, who addressed the students, explained to them the benefits of insurance to the populace and the society at large.
She equally encouraged the students to consider chosen insurance as their course of study in the higher institutions, assuring them that the future is bright for the insurance professionals and the industry.
In realisation of the fact that even many adults are yet to understand what insurance is all about, she said it is necessary to educate the younger ones so that the level of insurance penetration can continue to increase in the country.
Insurance textbooks were given to the students so that they can gain more knowledge about the industry, adding that their parents can also read the book to gain the required knowledge about insurance.
