Mrs. Yetunde Ilori, the new President of the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) has lamented that in spite of the various efforts to transform the nation’s insurance industry, the operators have failed to execute the strategies put in place at different fora.
She stated this in her acceptane speech as the 52nd president of the institute on Tuesday in Lagos.
She said “I must say this is the third time in the last two decades that enormous amount of money is spent in charting a course to transform the insurance industry. It is time to execute the strategy, we all (all arms) have put together, and it should not be wasted.
“It will be a shame to have someone from outside the industry to come and fix our pieces together and give us the edifice we have always longed for,” she stressed.
While appreciating the fact that she is coming on board at a time when it looks like the world is coming down economically, she stated that “We must come out of economic crisis a better industry than we got in and there is real urgency to get this done. The industry in Nigeria has no semblance of what we have in some developed climes.”
Meanwhile, the CIIN boss profoundly appreciated the founders and past leaders of the institute for laying the solid moulding blocks on which she would be building upon as President.
In spite of the daunting challenges that faced the institute, she affirmed that these great heroes, fuelled by selfless devotion, have bequeathed to the insurance professionals, an enviable institution to be proud of.
She therefore promised not to deviate from these sound ideals, even as she expressed gratitude for the trust the insurance industry have placed in her to lead the institute into a new era of growth, innovation, and excellence.
She further pleaded with all Insurance professionals that she is looking forward to working with all of them in making the CIIN a beacon of excellence, not only in the insurance industry in Nigeria, but also in the global professional landscape.
