Boko Haram on Friday attacked Geidam, Yobe State, the home town of the Acting Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali.
The PUNCH gathered that the attackers invaded the town on Friday evening and laid siege on some parts of the town.
According to a source, the terrorists attacked the heart of the town, burning shops and shooting indiscriminately in a gun battle with troops.
Details of the attack were sketchy as of the time of filing this report.
The Yobe Police Public Relations Officer, Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack.
He said the attackers are inside the town, causing destruction.
He promised to give details of the attack, which according to him are still sketchy.
The insurgents had also attacked Geidam in February, kidnapping three Customs officers.
